“Lluqu” in the Aymara language translates to: heart (the physical organ); it is mentioned twice to make it start beating with life: “Lluqu, lluqu.” Life must be called, the heart must be called twice, so that it begins to beat, to give and to receive.

"Lluqu, lluqu" is a solo physical theater piece that invites us to journey through the festivities of the agricultural calendar, animating objects, emotions, masks, and ancestral dances from the Bolivian Andes. It explores the erosion of reciprocity in a globalized world.

 

Inspired by the agricultural calendar and its festive rituals, the work delves into the act of giving and receiving through the relationship between humans, their community, nature, and the cosmos. The relentless struggle of this Andean warrior to keep festivities alive becomes a contemporary manifesto celebrating life and reaffirming the right to identity. What are the consequences of lacking reciprocity and complementarity in an inevitable cycle of transformation? Is balance maintained or broken? What is the true meaning of community?

This piece weaves together emotions, sensory provocations, and the active participation of the audience. The strongest elements on stage are the body, space, and movement, though words will appear minimally in Spanish, Aymara and English.
